Corsicana —
Janie Lou Farmer, age 93, passed away Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012. She was born in Eureka on Nov. 5, 1918 to Robert and Louvenia Grantham. She was the last surviving child and only daughter of seven children. She received her bachelor’s degree from North Texas State University and a master’s degree from East Texas State University. She taught home economics at Terrell High School from 1954-1985.
She met her husband Guss at their first teaching job in Emhouse and married in 1941. They celebrated over 70 years of marriage prior to his death in June 2011. She was well known to friends and family for her hospitality and excellent food.
She worked beside her husband in ministry all of their life at various churches in Texas and Southwestern Christian College in Terrell. In 2008 she received the Woman of Valor award for the time she taught at the college and years of support to her husband and the students at SWCC.
She was preceded in death by a son, Guss Dunn Farmer Jr. and her husband, Guss Dunn Farmer, Sr.
She is survived by a son, Glynn Farmer and his wife Jeannie and grand-daughter, Samantha, of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Annabel Glass and her husband Roger of Coppell; a grandson, Corey of Little Elm, and grand-daughter Lindsay Campbell and her husband Bob of Raleigh, N.C. Also, she is survived and remembered by many nieces and nephews, many friends and several devoted care givers.
Visitation is Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The funeral is Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. Both are at the Grove Hill Funeral Home. Please visit www.grove-hill.com.
