Hubbard “Hub” Ganze, 96, of Powell went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012. Mr. Ganze was born in Hubbard on Dec. 20, 1915. At the age of 6 days, his parents moved to Porner, Texas (Henderson County) where they lived until early l925. They then moved to Pursley Community in Navarro County where he grew up. In August of 1937, he married Bonnie Lessie Bolen of Pursley. The couple had four children born in Pursley and in late fall of 1955 they moved to Powell where he remained for the rest of his life. At the time of his death, he was in the Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana.
He farmed in Pursley before moving to Powell. In the early 1950’s he began working for a Navarro County Oil Drilling Company and by the mid-1950’s he and Lessie decided to give up the farming and work full time in the oil field business. In the mid-1970s he retired from the oil field. After retirement he worked long hard hours in the garden sharing the produce with many.
Mr. Ganze is preceded in death by Lessie Bolen Ganze, his wife for 71 years; his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Bancroft; his parents, Emil Max and Eliza Jane Daniels Ganze; five brothers (August, Max, Herman, Calvin or Cab, and J. D.); six sisters (Emily Gross, Veda Hardin, Mary Tidwell, Cecil Murray, Nelle McDonald and Helen Woodall Meadows); and one grand-daughter, Angela Ganze Jones.
He is survived by his three sons, George Lynn and wife Darline of Rosebud, Charles Ganze and wife Ruth of Granbury and Eddie Ganze and wife Jane of Crockett; and his son-in-law Arthur “Sonny” Bancroft of Powell. He is further survived by four grandsons, three granddaughters, 14 great- grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, a sister, Katherine Camilla Ganze Mahoney of Corsicana and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ganze was a member of the Powell Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon. He served as church treasurer and Sunday School Director for many years.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Morris Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Corsicana. Mr. Ganze’s grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
