Delmer A. Cates, age 78, of Corsicana passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at his residence in Corsicana. He was born June 28, 1934 in Corsicana to parents, Ed Delmar and Willie Cates.

He was a veteran having served his country in the Unites States Army. He was a truck driver, and retired after many years of traveling the highways.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Martha Cates; parents, Ed Delmar and Willie Cates; sister, Billie Wren; twin brother, Darrell Cates, brother, Charles Cates, and son-in-law, David “Moon Dawg” Douglas.

He is survived by his daughters, Mona Grace and husband Kenny of Corsicana and Lois Douglas of Corsicana; grandsons, Ronny Folmar of Corsicana, Michael Rogers of Corsicana, and James Cates and friend Michelle Davis of Corsicana; granddaughter, Monica Perez and husband Jeremy of Mildred; 18 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Honea officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Bancroft, Eldon St. Ledger, Daniel Wren, Wayne Biggs, Jackie Grace, and Eric Hancock. Honorary Pallbearer is Ray Phillips.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to his grandson, James Cates and his friend Michelle Davis and his niece, Patricia Smith for their loving care during his illness.
