Corsicana —
Hazel L. Emig – Garrett was born Dec. 14, 1928 in Corsicana to Joseph L. and Pearl O. Baker. She went to be with her Lord Tuesday, March 19, 2013 in Mesquite.
Hazel retired from Southwestern Bell after 31years as a telephone operator. She loved her animals Coco, Holly, and Smokey, watching her husband drag race, she had beautiful hand writing which made her an excellent pen pal, and loved going out dancing at the honkey tonks when she was younger. Hazel was an Eastern Star and enjoyed adopting children at the Masonic Home at Christmas so they would have presents.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard Emig, Jr., and a sister, Joan Baker Coffey.
She leaves behind her husband Jack Garrett, nephew Jim Coffey and wife Annessia, great-niece Tiffany Fish and husband Matthew, great-nephew James Coffey, III, and many friends by whom she will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hazel’s name to the Macedonia Baptist Church of Mesquite.
Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013 at González Funeral Home, 1111 Military Parkway Dallas, TX 75149.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mesquite with burial at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana.
