Mrs. Carolyn LaVonne Carroll, 82, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in Cedar Hill.
She was a resident of Duncanville.
Carolyn was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Sylacauga, Ala. to Alva J. Smith and Hulen G. Smith. She was a loving mother and devoted Christian. A woman of all seasons, Carolyn was a homemaker, substitute teacher, published poet, speech writer and journalist. In 1988, she was awarded an Honorable Mention and Golden Poet Award for her poem, “Be a Role Model.”
She was a member of First Independent Baptist Church in Corsicana.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Obra J. Moore Jr.
Survivors include her son, Otto S. Carroll Jr.; two daughters, Shari L. Carroll and Laurie A. Carroll; one nephew, Obra J. Moore III; and a grand-nephew and niece, Malcolm and Malika Moore.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Scott Funeral Home in Corsicana.
Service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at First Independent Baptist Church in Corsicana with the Rev. Kenneth Walton officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
