Jimmie Nell Bush Sutton

Jimmie Nell Bush Sutton slipped away from this world Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 into the arms of her Lord. She was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Corsicana.  

She enjoyed a very happy childhood with her parents, Earl and Mae Bush, her precious little sister, Dorothy Marie and her beloved brother Earl Bush, Jr. The family attended First Methodist Church of Corsicana. She was a lover of music and studied violin for 10 years earning State Certificates in Theory and Harmony early in her life.  

She met the love of her life, Gwynn Sutton, and they were married Feb. 20, 1943 in Corsicana. During World War II, while Gwynn served his country in the Air Force, Jimmie Nell worked as an executive assistant at American Well and Prospecting Co., and was promoted to the St. Louis Ordinance Division in Dallas. When the Air Force moved them to Amarillo, she worked as a secretary at Amarillo Air Force Base. She also worked for Hunter Freight in Savannah, Ga., Savannah Bank and Trust, and Braniff Airways in Dallas during the war. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and Keystone Sunday School Class in Irving. She enjoyed singing in the church choir, teaching in Vacation Bible School, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women where she served as president and held other offices throughout the years. Jimmie sang for many years with the Irving Women’s Choral Club. She loved to write poetry for her family and was a “Distinguished Member” of the International Society of Poets. Jimmie was dearly loved by her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and entire family. They will especially remember her for making each holiday a special time.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Mae Bush, sister Dorothy Marie Bush Burleson, and a nephew, Bryant Burleson.  

Survivors include her husband Gwynn Sutton of Irving; son, Kim Sutton and wife Carol of Richardson; daughter Karon Sutton of Irving; grandchildren Ryan Sutton of Dallas, Trent Sutton and wife Samantha of Frisco, Misty Ellison and husband Phillip of Keller; great-grandchildren, Carter Sutton, Cade Sutton, Mackenzie Ellison, J. R. Ellison, and Preston Ellison; and her precious nieces and nephews, Cass, Dana, and Jennifer and their families.  

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway in Irving.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 211 W. Third Street in Irving.  Burial will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
