Corsicana —
Mrs. Clearcy Sykes Shoemaker, age 102, of Corsicana passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at the Alterra Sterling House of Corsicana after a brief illness. She was born Dec. 19, 1910 in Dawson to parents, G.W. and Gaily Elizabeth Sykes.
She married Charles Phillip Shoemaker on May 18, 1929, a happy loving marriage which endured for 60 years until his death in 1989. She was a member of IOOF/Rebekahs, serving as Grand Matriarch of Texas in 1979 and living out its principles of Friendship, Love and Truth. She was very active all her life and was loved by all who knew her. She led a full, happy life and was always an inspiration to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters Velma Sykes Hunter, Ruby Sykes Fortson, Ruth Sykes Lee, and Oleta Sykes Graham and her granddaughter, Cheryl Jean Gressett Mills.
She is survived by her children, Ruby Andrews and husband Wilmer (Bubba) of Corsicana, Betty Gressett and husband Robert of Conroe and Phil Shoemaker and wife Cindy of Tyler; grandchildren Becky Matthews and husband Charles (Matt) of Mabank, Tracy Andrews of Roane, David Andrews and wife Wendy of Purdon, Doug Gressett and wife Kathie of Midland, and Ron Gressett and wife Cindy of Portland, Anna Shoemaker of Paris, France, and Phillip Shoemaker and Mary Shoemaker of Tyler, along with 12 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from Minnesota and across the state of Texas.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at Corley Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Dresden Cemetery with Chaplain Kirk Curry officiating.
