George Richard "Dickey" Ward, Jr. died peacefully on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012 in Corsicana at Navarro Regional Hospital after suffering complications following an allergic reaction to medication.
DIckey was preceded in death by his parents George R. "Buddy" and Eva Janet Ward.
Born on Sept. 19, 1946, Dickey was a lifelong resident of Corsicana. He was baptized at the age of 10 at the 11th Ave. Methodist Church. Dickey attended Corsicana public schools. and afterward entered the United States Marine Corps where he was a Purple Heart recipient while serving in Chu Lai, Vietnam. Following military service he worked for several large companies as a truck driver for over 30 years. Dickey was an avid gun collector. He was a member of the NRA, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
Dickey was known as a big-hearted, generous man with a sense of humor and an infectious laugh. He was unassuming and very likeable. He considered many people in Corsicana to be his friend, and almost everyone that knew him could tell a funny story of time spent with Dickey. In youth he was tall and skinny, somewhat mischievous, loved westerns and war movies and could make any sound effect on demand. He grew into a gentle giant willing to help others when called upon. In death he became an organ donor.
He is survived by his wife, Staci of Corsicana; son, Andy of Red Oak; brother, Ronald G. Ward and wife, Jan of Bandung, Indonesia; sisters, Janet Farhat and husband David of Mabank, and Kathey Harrison and husband, Mark of Corsicana, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and aunts.
Visitation will be at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012.
Military graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, 2012 at Dallas /Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas with Rev. Clayton Smith officiating.
