Lorena ‘Murlene’ Bell

Lorena “Murlene” Bell 80, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and friends.

She was born Oct. 15, 1932 to Lorena and Willie Craig of Streetman, who preceded her in death.

She was married to the love of her life Clint Bell, who preceded her in death in 1992.

In her early years she was employed by Haggar Slack Company and Adams Hats. She was later employed at Cason’s Flowers where she loved to work with flowers and especially her co-workers and her longtime friend Robbie Wilson.

She was a lady of many talents, very strong and independent. She was a seamstress for her family and friends. In her 70’s she began oil painting, she was a member of the Corsicana Art League and painted many beautiful pieces of art. She was a terrific cook and loved to cook for her family.

She loved to play cards and dominoes with her friends, playing for many years at the Senior Citizen Center, friends’ homes and Heritage Oaks West.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of St Elmo. She faced cancer with a zest for life and was determined for her remaining time to be quality time, spent with her family and friends.

She moved to Heritage Oaks West where she had numerous friends and made many new ones.

As a Christian, she was at peace with her terminal illness, often comforting her family by telling them she had 80 great years and was ready to go to her Heavenly home.

She is also preceded in death by her dear grandson Jonathan Brown, sister Ima Jo Simpson, brother-in-law V.F. “Tooter” Bell and dear friend Ann Paschal.

Survivors include  her children, Teresa Brown and husband James of Barry, Darlene Johnston and husband Tommy of Corsicana, Clinton Bell Jr and wife Tina of Denver, Colo.; and grandchildren Jennifer and John Buckannan, Caleb Johnston and Lacey Owen, Amanda and Eli Wolfgram and Bryan Bell; great grandchildren Preston Buckannan, Peyton Buckannan and Hunter Wolfgram, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by many dear friends and game partners, David and Patricia Bell, Jo Mullenix, Oma Lewis, Jackie Rash, Cindy Rogers, Linda Lee, Peggy Blanchette and many more.

Her family feels very blessed to have had such a loving, caring and giving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother in their lives.

The family would like to Thank the staff at Heritage Oaks West and Hand in Hand Hospice.

Visitation was held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers were David Bell, James Simpson, David Simpson, Alan Paschal, Kevin Steely and Johnny Brown Jr.
