Billy Ray Cobb Sr., 69, of Corsicana passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at Navarro Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born May 13, 1940 in Van Zandt County. In early years he worked in air conditioning out in west Texas and New Mexico. He owned and operated Corsicana A/C and Sheet Metal Company for 40 years. He believed in being fair and honest with his customers; all his great employees helped to contribute to his success .
He lived and loved life to the fullest. Never met a stranger, he always had a smile and loved to tell funny stories. He was an active supporter of the Youth Expo auctions. He was a rancher and his hobby was checking on his girls (cows) and knew each one — where he purchased them or when they where born. Most of all he loved all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James Everett Cobb and Merle Groom Cobb; and brother, Horace Daniel Cobb.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jeanette Cobb; son, Ray Cobb and wife Lisa; daughter, Mary Jock; stepdaughter, Marsha Qualls and husband Jimmy; stepson, David Richter and wife Terri; sister-in-law, Carolyn Cobb; grandsons, Jimmy Richter, Jeremey Cobb and wife Candace, David Sparkman, Tyler Richter, and Logan Jock; granddaughters, Jancye Cobb Lee and husband Jesse, Miranda Wallen, Erika Richter, and Brooke Richter; great grandchildren, Mack Richter, Hagen Richter, Taylynn Richter, Mariah Sparkman, Zayde Ruth Cobb, Raelyn K. Cobb, and Mallary Wallen; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Vickery and wife Thalia, and Stanley Vickery and wife Crystal; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Griffin-Roughton Chapel with Pastor Harry Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Randy Jock, Rodney Jock, Joe Atkeison, Lionel Price, Ronnie McKnight and Ryan Jock.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert List, Thong Vo, Chuck Rash, Bobby Bruce, Dennis Melton, Marcus Melton and Dwayne Marlar.
