Harold Ray Johnson
Harold Ray Johnson was born July 11, 1941, in Terrell and passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. He graduated with a master’s degree from East Texas State University and then embarked on a 42-year career in public education beginning as a coach with Corsicana ISD. Harold served an 11-year tenure as superintendent of Scurry-Rosser ISD and retired in 2001. For the past eight years, he had been employed by Kaufman ISD serving as assistant superintendent for four of those years.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Fay and Harold Leonard Johnson, both of whom were from Terrell.
Harold is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara T. Johnson of Scurry; three sons, Robert H. Johnson and wife Kim of Austin, Matthew D. Johnson of Dallas, and Jonathan D. Johnson of Terrell; one daughter, Erin E. Johnson Dieterich of Forney; and one grandson, Nicholas T. Dieterich; as well as several extended family, beloved friends and colleagues. Harold was a dedicated father and husband and will be deeply missed by many.
Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Todd Peavy officiating. Interment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Terrell. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Harold’s name may be made to the City of Hope, a cancer research center, located at 1500 E. Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010.
