Michael Bailey, 59, of Corsicana passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, at his residence in Powell. He was born on May 24, 1950, in Corsicana to Oran D. and Lena Jane Bailey.
Mike was saved at Memorial Baptist Church. He was always gifted vocally and sang in church and with several gospel groups. The first group was the Decisions, and then sang with the Laymen, Third Day and Eternal River Band. He also loved to work with the sound booth in church. He worked closely with his former pastor and brothers at Community Chapel Independent Pentecostal Church in the building and renovation process. He was employed for 15 years at Kmart Distribution Center. He loved to bowl and was on a league at Corsicana Park Lanes. He played church league softball for 20 years. He was music director for First Baptist Church in Rice. He has now transitioned to the heavenly choir.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Oran D. Bailey; and his father-in-law, Carlos V. Garza.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Bailey of Powell; daughters, Julie Cne’ Bailey and life partner Brandi Edwards of Garland, and Tiffany Bailey of Powell; sons, John Bailey of Rowlett, Douglas Bailey and Jeremy Powell of Powell, and Jody Powell of Corsicana; mother, Lena Jane Russell Bailey of Rice; brothers, Larry Bailey and wife Barbara and Russell Bailey, all of Rice; mother-in-law, Mary Garza of Corsicana; sisters-in-law, Malissa Bailey of Red Oak, Malinda Bailey of Rice, Bonita Shelton of Waco, Veronica Morales and husband Billy Ruth of Corsicana, and Anabel, Jennifer, and Denise Garza of Corsicana; brothers-in-law, Carlos Garza of Corsicana, and Paul Garza and wife Eliza of Corpus Christi; numerous nieces and nephews, and a his lifelong friend, Mike Wendt of Corsicana.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at House of Praise Church of God with funeral services following at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Schane and Rev. Aaron Dominique officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Bailey, Grant Noe, Carlos Garza, Tim Dickerson, Henry Raney, Tim Avrit, and Koy Cofer.
