BROWN: Bouncy shoes and a pirate

Eccentricity abundant here in the ‘Can

— Mama’s got a new pair of shoes.

Yeah, yeah — for anyone else that wouldn’t be noteworthy.

But since we’ve established I’d rather go to the dentist than shop, it’s major.

And these are NOT just your ordinary shoes, no sirree.

I’d been seeing those commercials on TV with that woman talking about her new Reeboks, the ones that were “shaping” her while she walked.

Then I read on Facebook where my friend Jamie Phillips, owner of Southern Clutter Salon and Boutique over in Kerens, said she had a new pair of Sketcher Shape Ups, and was feeling the “burn” in her rear and legs.

I like to refer to mine as “Build a Butt” shoes (no offense to those bear factories). I got online right after reading Jamie’s post and ordered me up a pair of those Sketchers. Although, I have to say I’ve worn them about 15 times now and I still don’t feel any “burn.” What gives?

I’ve always been a little lacking in the derrieré department, so of course I was thrilled when a coworker said, “Wow, you’re starting to resemble Beyonce!” But I think they were just pulling my chain ...

Walking in these shoes is pretty fun. There’s a bit o’ the bounce to them. Camille laughs every time I round the corner in the office. I’m not sure why. I do know they make me slightly taller, which is uber cool.

And, they attract attention. Everywhere I go, people immediately look at my feet (I really don’t think it’s the walk) and comment about the shoes. Of course, men ask the same question Kormos at the next desk posed, “Are those some kind of orthopedic shoe?” Women want to know all about them. They’re a great conversation piece.

Speaking of conversation starters, I went to see Gary P. Nunn at the Palace Theatre Saturday night.

Didn’t know he was playing there, you say?

I nearly missed it myself, but thankfully, someone saw it on the marquee and mentioned it to me. There was a very small but devoted crowd, seemingly all fans of Nunn’s Texas music.

In the crowd there was a pirate.

Yes, I said pirate.

Not your Pirate of Penzance type of pirate, but more like Captain Jack Sparrow from “Pirates of the Caribbean” brand pirate.

Mind you, the concert was not held on Halloween. It was Jan. 30. Just saying.

Said pirate even danced with some woman (not sure if he knew her or not) across the front of the theatre on the last song of the night.

Though nobody I spoke to that night at the Palace seemed to know his identity, I have since learned from others that it was the younger brother of a former bank executive in town who now owns a store on the south side of the lake.

Man, you gotta love this town!!!
