Nov. 2

A public meeting, sponsored by the PUSH committee will be held from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. at the Corsicana Public Library, 100 N. 12th St. This meeting will be open to the public and residents and business owners and managers throughout Navarro County are encouraged to attend. The purpose of the meeting is to dialogue and to develop a plan of action to have the community more “business friendly.” The goal is to retain current jobs and employers and recruit new jobs to the community and county. City of Blooming Grove will hold its monthly city council meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Blooming Grove City Hall, 200 S. Fordyce St.

Corsicana Art League will meet at 6 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center. Gladys Espenson will demonstrate how she makes leaded stained glass pieces and talk about the artwork she has created. She has worked in different artistic mediums such as fiberglass, wood, metal, and now leaded stained glass. She also is very talented in the art of fusing glass and incorporating it into her stained glass pieces. Members and the public are invited to attend.

Corsicana Masonic Lodge will have a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. A meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. All Masons are invited.

Nov. 3

Corsicana Chapter No. 118, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Corsicana Masonic Lodge. A potluck supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. All area OES members are invited For more information, call Bonnie Mathison at (903) 874-0226.

Oak Valley Crime Watch will have its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Valley Community Center. The crime report will be given by the deputies. Special guest will be Emily Carroll with the Corsicana/Navarro County Public Health District, who will discuss various services available to county residents. Please bring a dish and join in for an informative program and food and fellowship.

Nov. 4

Eureka Crime Watch will meet at 1:30 p.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. The Solid Rockers Quartet from First Baptist Church of Corsicana will be the special guests. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Nov. 5

Hat Factory employees will meet at 11 a.m. at Sirloin Stockade. Anyone who worked at the factory is invited to attend and visit with everyone. Please bring pictures you would like to share. Blooming Grove Crime Watch will meet at 7 p.m. at the Blooming Grove Fire Station. Mike Baldree, Blooming Grove Independent School District superintendent, will be the speaker. Light refreshments will be served.

American Red Cross community blood drive will be held from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Navarro Shriners building, 323 N. Commerce St. Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health and have a photo ID. For an appointment or information, call (800) 448-3543 or view the Web site at bloodisneeded.org. You may also help the local Red Cross branch by donating a new (unused) blanket. Red Cross Club members will be on hand at the blood drive as well as the branch office, 701 W. Second Ave., to accept your donations from noon to 6 p.m.

American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will have meetings as scheduled. Executive committee and Legionnaires meetings are canceled for this month, unless a meeting is called. Angels of Corsicana, a troop support group, will meet at 6 a.m. at 1020 N. Business 45. They will leave from there going to American Legion Post 624 in Mansfield to pack Christmas for the troops. Nov. 9

Woodmen of the World Lodge 5 will meet at 6 p.m. at the VFW Post 3366, on State Highway 31. All members, their families and guests are cordially invited. This will be Thanksgiving meal so please RSVP by Nov. 2 to Trudy Howell at (903) 874-7050.

Navarro County Historical Society will have its annual banquet at 7 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 919 W. Park Ave. The speaker will be historical-western author Rick Miller, attorney for Bell County. His subject will be “Sam Bass,” which is the title of one of his books. Historian of the Year Award and Preservation Award will be presented. Reservations for the catered meal are $15 each and tickets may be purchased in advance from Pioneer Village. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1009 will meet at 7 p.m. at Sirloin Stockade, 2508 W. Seventh Ave., Corsicana. Membership is open to U.S. armed forces veterans who served on active duty (for other than training purposes) in the Republic of Vietnam between Feb. 28, 1961, and May 7, 1975, or in any duty location between Aug. 5, 1964, and May 7, 1975. The veteran must submit a copy of his/her DD Form 214 along with application and dues. Members and guests are invited to come early and eat and visit prior to the meeting.

VOICE will offer the Texas Youth Tobacco Awareness Program, a state-approved program for minors charged with attempted purchase, consumption or possession of tobacco and is designed to the mandates of Texas law. VOICE staff is certified to facilitate this program. The class will be an eight-hour program divided into four two-hour sessions. This session will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 10, 12, 17 and 19. Participants are required to attend all sessions. Classes are $100 (cash only) for all sessions. All participants must pre-register. Nov. 11

Navarro County War Memorial Veteran’s Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on the Navarro County Courthouse northwest lawn. The speaker will be Staff Sgt. Jay Fondren. The ceremony will include Zanada Tally-Schoppert, Les Grayson, Navarro County Sheriff’s Office honor guard, Rick Lamb and Tim Easley. Water and flags will be provided by Corley Funeral Home. Navarro College Veterans Organization will host a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 1 p.m. in the Gooch Courtyard (between the Albritton Administration Building and the Gooch One-Stop Center) on the college campus. It will include patriotic music and comments related to Veteran’s Day from Dr. Tommy Stringer, director of the Navarro College Foundation. The public is invited to attend. The Pearce Civil War Museum and Western Art Collection, located at The Cook Center on the Navarro College campus, will be free to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring your family and friends to tour the museum for free.

Woodland Cemetery Association will sponsor a Woodland gathering fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. The purpose will be to raise funds for purchase of street signs, flagpole, plant trees and uplift headstones for the African-American historical cemetery, one of the largest in Navarro County. The speaker will be Elder Joseph Johnson, pastor of Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ. Your help is needed to continue to beautify and restore this beautiful place. Big C Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 S. Beaton St. The house band includes Chuck Wiginton, Zanada Tally, Joe Honea, Jody Thomas, Ron Sikes, and Bobby Fluker, who will also be the emcee. Navarro County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. at the Nancy Roberts Meeting Room of the Corsicana Public Library. The program title will be “Researching cemeteries on site and on paper,” presented by Barbara Shore and Verna Bonner. Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its next county executive committee meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St., in downtown Corsicana. Frank Steed and Michael Evans will report on the Texas Secretary of State 14th Biennial Election Law Seminar for county chairmen held Nov. 6-7 in Austin. Thomas Ratliff, candidate for Texas State Board of Education District 9, will attend and be given an opportunity to speak.
