Nov. 14-21
Navarro College Theatre Department will present a one-hour, family-friendly performance of “The Big Black Dog” and other true stories from childhood in the Black Box Theatre, located on the second floor, east wing, of the Albritton Building on the college campus, at 7 p.m. Nov. 13-14; 2 p.m. Nov. 15; 7 p.m. Nov. 19; and 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 21. American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., will have a Ladies Auxiliary meeting at 4 p.m. To attend the meeting, membership must be current. For more information, call after 2 p.m. to (903) 874-3938.
Angels of Corsicana, a troop support group, will meet at 9 a.m. at 1020 N. Business 45. If you have items to donate for supporting the U.S. troops, you can bring to the meeting or you can drop them off at the American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton St., after 2 p.m. daily. Woodland Cemetery Association will sponsor a Woodland gathering fund-raiser from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. The purpose will be to raise funds for purchase of street signs, flagpole, plant trees and uplift headstones for the African-American historical cemetery, one of the largest in Navarro County. The speaker will be Elder Joseph Johnson, pastor of Johnson Memorial Church of God in Christ. Your help is needed to continue to beautify and restore this beautiful place. Big C Jamboree will be held at 7 p.m. at Martin’s Music Hall, 201 S. Beaton St. The house band includes Chuck Wiginton, Zanada Tally, Joe Honea, Jody Thomas, Ron Sikes, and Bobby Fluker, who will also be the emcee. Also performing will be Fred Hayes, Billy Roy Mitcham and Stan Lawhon. Special guests will be Marilyn McConnell and Cara Weempe. Tickets will be $10 per person. Navarro County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. at the Nancy Roberts Meeting Room of the Corsicana Public Library. The program title will be “Researching cemeteries on site and on paper,” presented by Barbara Shore and Verna Bonner. There will be a brief business meeting for election of officer and tending to business matters before the program. Members are encouraged to attend, and the public is invited. Shakers and Scrapers will have one last cruise night of the year to help support the Christmas toy drive for The Salvation Army. Come join in from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sonic Drive-In on South U.S. Highway 287 (just off Interstate 45). Bring your car, truck, motorcycle or tractor and help Shakers and Scrapers help the children of Corsicana. Blooming Grove Friends of Youth will have a chili supper fund-raiser and auction at the Blooming Grove Elementary School cafeteria. Tickets are $6. Chili supper will begin at 5 p.m. with the auction starting at 6 p.m. Come and taste the award-winning chili of Mike “Odie” McCarter and his Black Gold chili team.
Navarro Mills Volunteer Fire Department, located at Farm-to-Market Roads 667 and 744 in the Raleigh community, will have a chili-supper fund-raiser at 4 p.m. For more information, call (254) 678-3527.
Day in November will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at College Park Mall, 3500 W. Seventh Ave. There will be arts and crafts, jewelry, artisans, handcrafted pottery, baked goods, gifts, etc., along with an animal adoption. For more information, call (903) 872-7486.
Union High Volunteer Fire Department, located on Farm-to-Market Road 638 just off FM 642, will have a fund-raiser beginning at 5:30 p.m. A turkey and dressing dinner will be served. Donations accepted. A live auction will follow the dinner. For more information, call (903) 673-2551.
Coyote Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the Corsicana Municipal Airport. After the meeting, there will be a ground school on the squadron’s own airplane, the PT-19. After the ground school, there will be lunch. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

Hubbard Rodeo Association will have its Cowboy Mounted Shoot at 10 a.m. Nov. 14-15 at the Mooney Holloway Arena, State Highway 31, Hubbard. This is a rescheduled event due to a rain out. Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the nation’s fastest-growing equestrian sports. Mounted contestants compete in this fast-action, timed event using two .45 caliber single-action revolvers each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared black ammunition. Locally produced items of all tastes, textures, shapes and sizes will be offered at a winter farmer-rancher market in downtown Corsicana from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays Nov. 14 and 21 and Dec. 5 and 12. Expect to find fall and winter crops, ranch and dairy products, baked goods and homestead arts, all under one roof at Howard’s Paint and Body, 311 N. Republican Party of Navarro County will hold its next county executive committee meeting at 7 p.m. on the seventh floor of the Bank of America building, 100 N. Main St., in downtown Corsicana. Frank Steed and Michael Evans will report on the Texas Secretary of State 14th Biennial Election Law Seminar for county chairmen held Nov. 6-7 in Austin. Thomas Ratliff, candidate for Texas State Board of Education District 9, will attend and be given an opportunity to speak. Main St., Corsicana, to pack and ship boxes to two U.S. military troops deployed from Texas. The group is collecting items and donations to pay for postage. Navarro Elementary School fourth grade students will present “Broadway Beat,” with songs from Broadway musicals, at 7 p.m. in the school’s cafetorium.

A ranch sorting will be held at Lonestar Cowboy Church, 4495 W. State Highway 22, to benefit Johnnie B. McLain, who was injured Oct. 31 while unloading a four-wheeler, when he was hit by a truck which left the roadway. Family Story Hour will be held at 10 a.m. at the Richard M. Sanchez Library, located at the north end of the Navarro College campus, presented by Dr. Ruth Penque. The theme will be “Put on Your Cowboy Boots.” Guests are invited to dress in keeping with the theme. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. No reservations are needed. A food drive will be held at Walmart and the big brown boxes are at the store’s entry points. Suggested items include peanut butter, canned vegetables, cereals, dry beans, boxed meals, dry rice, helper meals (i.e. Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper), macaroni and cheese, canned meats, cornbread mix, rice, canned tuna, beans, canned spaghetti, canned chili and canned fruits. Under the direction of Cranston Dodds, two Warehouse favorites — Gary Douglas and Frank Means — will create the entire population of Tuna, Texas in a “tour de farce” of quick change artistry, changing costumes and characterizations.
