Hubbard falls in revenge game to Bosqueville 35-9

No. 9 Jaguars lose at home

HUBBARD — — The Bosqueville Bulldogs, displaying a balanced offensive attack with136 yards passing and 115 yards rushing, shocked the No. 9 ranked Hubbard Jaguars 35-9 Friday night at Jaguar Field in a battle between Class 1A schools.

In avenging last season’s 22-15 loss to the Jaguars, Bosqueville (2-0) dominated the line of scrimmage in the second half of play as they turned a 14-9 halftime lead into a four touchdown win by limiting Hubbard (1-1) to a total of 30 yards of total offense over the final two quarters.

The first half was an evenly fought contest with Hubbard actually holding an edge in total yardage and first downs but the second half saw Bosqueville utilize its superior size difference up front to shut down the Jags’ vaunted ground game.

Bosqueville scored on the game’s opening series on a 7-play, 50-yard drive with QB CJ Collins hooking up with JT Antis from 29 yards out for the first touchdown of the evening.  Hubbard answered near the end of the first quarter as tackle Kenyon Mathis recovered a fumble by a teammate in the endzone for the Jags’ first score.

Bo Moore lives by the run. He likes to put pressure on the opponent. A three-run seventh looked like just enough cushion in a five-run game. But it wasn’t. Windthorst scored six runs, five with two outs, to steal a 7-6 win from Dawson in Game 1 of the Region II-1A seminfinals at Weatherford College.

  • GC Baseball: ’Dogs want more - Windthorst next up for surging Dawson

At this point, it might be easy to classify the rest of the baseball season for Dawson as gravy. But hold on a minute, coach Bo Moore said. The Bulldogs (20-7) are in the Region II-1A semifinals, the club’s deepest trek in many, many moons. To do that, they beat a Dodd City team that ousted them last year in the area round.
