HS Baseball Roundup: Tigers finish strong

Corsicana — Heath Donica hit two more home runs as the Tigers crushed Dallas Bryan Adams on Saturday afternoon in the consolation final of the Ennis Tournament.

Donica went 4 for 4 with six RBIs. Matt Speed also hit a home run in a six-run inning.

Hunter Melton was 3 for 3 with two RBIs. Gage Curry was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Matt Wilkins drew four walks.

Donica and Wilkins were named to the all-tournament team.

Corsicana (9-7, 1-0 in 16-4A), will travel to Waco Midway for a 7 p.m. game Tuesday against the Panthers, one of the favorites to win 16-4A.

Frost 23, Oak Cliff Faith Family

Ty Ritterbach was the winning pitcher as Frost crushed Oak Cliff Faith Family, 23-2, on Saturday.

Frost scored 12 runs in the first and 11 in the second.

Wortham splits DH with Dallas Pinkston

Wortham bounced back with a 9-7 victory over Dallas Pinkston after falling in the opener of a doubleheader, 12-8.

Wortham is 7-3 on the season and plays Valley Mills on Tuesday.

    The Dawson girls won their way into a third-place playoff game. Now they try to win their way into the playoffs.
    The Lady Bulldogs will play at Mart at 6 p.m. Friday night for the right to be the third-place representative out of District 16-1A for the Class 1A Division I playoffs that begin next week.

    The Corsicana soccer teams open the District 28-4A season Friday night at home against Ferris.
    They will try to rebound off a tough start to the season. The boys will play first at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls at 7:30 p.m.

    Navarro and Grayson County didn’t meet at last year’s Junior College World Series, even though the Texas schools both made it to Grand Junction.
    They played a game Wednesday filled with a tournament type of intensity.
    The Bulldogs held on in the end 6-5 as freshman Gage Curry, who was just finishing up his career as a Corsicana Tiger last year when Navarro won the national title, got the final two outs for his second save.

    Navarro has the three-game conference winning streak that Runnin’ Bulldogs coach Johnny Estelle wanted to see.
    That his team did it on a night that they played a lackluster first 22 minutes can only be taken as a positive.
