Corsicana —
It has been a wild ride already and the Tigers are just 96 minutes in to the 2012 campaign. Game 2 was a 180 degree turn from Game 1.
Unfortunately, those degrees of difference in the loss column didn’t change. The Tigers are 0-2.
In Week 1 the Tigers played half one well, and half two not so well. In Week 2 in Red Oak, the Tigers played a half worthy of the quote “what in the wide world of sports has happened to this football team.” Half two had the crowd on their feet and the Tigers were one possession away from the biggest comeback in modern CHS history.
The time has come for this team to put together a full 48 minutes of football.
Experiments have been aplenty and multi-purpose player Bobby Wallace saw extended time at tailback. After two weeks, he seems to be the 2012 version of play-anywhere-phenom Tevin McDonald. Wallace has seen time in the defensive secondary, at wide receiver, and at running back where he not only runs but twice threw the option pass against Red Oak.
“I like to do it because it helps out my team,” said Wallace who completed one of two long halfback passes.
Two games into the 2012 campaign and the growing pains expected for this team have been evident. Tiger coaches knew they were inevitable but experiencing them is still not easy to take.
“We have to put together a complete game if we expect to win,” fourth-year head coach Phil Castles said. “We will not win ballgames just by wearing that “C” on our helmets. We have to play 48 minutes to succeed.”
Moral victories are useless in the standings, but give this Tiger bunch credit in their second game of the year. They never quit. Fans vacated the stands. Radio sideline reporters found players from yesteryear to interview during the game. A nearby lurking skunk let his presence be known and jokes were made about it being symbolic of the play on the field.
Down 34-0 and while virtually everyone began to watch the clock in hopes that it would read 00:00 soon, the Tigers began to rally. 34-0 became 34-8 and then 34-16 and 34-24 with over nine minutes left in the game.
Game on.
With the Tiger faithful as loud as it was on Week 14 last year, the Tigers cut it to 34-31 and then recovered the onside kick. Pandemonium ensued, but the Tigers, who are still figuring out how to finish games, couldn’t finish their most crucial drive of 2012.
Game 3 is in three days and is the home opener at Tiger Stadium. This team is ready to play four quarters of football.
“That was a tough one,” Cedric Weaver said the day following the game. “We are still learning about some players, but I think we will be all right.”

MORGAN: IRS & Mack? Scrutiny abounds for Texas teams
There is a scandal brewing in Austin. No, it has nothing to do with Rick Perry and the rainy day fund or allowing guns on college campuses. It concerns Mack Brown’s boys at the University of Texas. Apparently, Mack has filed as a non-profit organization with the IRS. Unfortunately, he filed as a 501C under the name “The U‘T’ Party,” and the IRS has put them under intense scrutiny.
