Dawson, Cayuga cancelled in second quarter
DAWSON — Friday night’s showdown between the Dawson Bulldogs (2-0) and Cayuga Wildcats (1-1) was cancelled after a lightening delay of over an hour. Only 12 minutes and 51 seconds worth of football had been played when Mother Nature made her presence felt.
Highly touted senior Wildcat running back Traylon Shead had already accumulated 104 rushing yards in the contest. Most of those yards came on the first offensive play of the game as Shead took the opening hand-off and rumbled 64 yards, giving Cayuga an early lead. The Wildcats were on top 20-0 when the game was cancelled.
Dawson struggled throughout the abbreviated outing. Defensively, the Bulldogs gave up six first downs and 169 total rushing yards, but were also able to force and recover a Shead fumble deep in Bulldog territory.
Dawson’s offense was only able to muster nine yards, but was showing more and more signs of life on each possession heading into the second quarter. Senior running back Justin Oliver led the Bulldogs with six rushing yards.
The Bulldogs continue their season next week with a long road trip to face the De Leon Bearcats.
