Celina Smithers had 14 kills, eight aces, three blocks, four digs and an assist as Rice beat Mildred for the second time this season 25-22, 25-20, 15-25, 25-13 on Saturday.
For Rice (15-10, 5-2), Paige Allen was 18 of 18 serving with four kills and three digs. Sadie Gent was 12 of 13 serving with five kills and six digs. Sarah Gent was 10 of 11 serving with 11 assists, two saves and four digs. Hanna Owens had two assists and eight assists. Katelyn Northcutt had a kill, a block, a dig and an assist.
For Mildred (18-17, 4-3), Olivia Farmer had 11 kills, three blocks, an ace and eight digs. Stephanie Zamora had nine assists and five digs. Savannah Pritchett had two kills, three blocks, three aces and four digs. Jenny Jock had four kills, five assists and two digs. Morgan McCreary had two blocks, three assists and two digs. Audra Springer had four kills and eight digs. Callie Bland had 11 digs. Maddie Moore had seven assists, an ace and a dig. Joanna Tapley had nine kills, two aces and eight digs.
Also, the Rice JV defeated Mildred in 3 25-17,15-25, 25-22. Yazmine Hinojosa and Deashia Smith played well for the Lady Bulldogs.
Kerens stays in tie for 2nd: Kerens picked up an important win Saturday, defeating Coolidge 25-15, 26-24, 22-25, 25-23 to stay in a second-place tie with Wortham.
Kerens (17-10, 8-3) was led by Breanna Wells, who was 18 for 18 serving with six kills, nine blocks and seven digs. Marqueshia Kelly had 13 kills, two blocks and two digs. Taylor Ames was 13 for 15 serving with two aces and 10 assists. Cambree Betts was 10 for 12 serving with two blocks and four digs. Tinesha Tolliver was 17 for 17 serving with five kills, a block and four digs. Keenya Brown had two kills and two blocks. Kayla Kilcrease was 14 for 16 with seven digs. Brittany McClure was 17 for 17 on serves with seven assists.
Wortham beats Hubbard in 5: Wortham stayed in a second-place tie with Kerens in 14-1A with a hard-fought five-set win over Hubbard on Saturday.
Wortham (15-7, 8-3) beat Hubbard 25-19, 16-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-3. The Lady Jaguars dropped to 13-23, 2-9 in district.
Dawson beats Cayuga: Kaylee Martinez had two kills and five assists as Dawson beat Cayuga 25-11, 25-16, 25-16.
Demi Dotson had two kills and a dig for Dawson (11-12, 5-6). Courtney Warren had a kill and three assists. Jalyn Miller had three kills. Micheala Greer had an ace.
