The playoff picture is clearer now after this weekend’s high school volleyball action around the Golden Circle.
Rice, Mildred, Wortham, Kerens and Frost are all in. And Corsicana needs two wins this week to punch its ticket.
It’s a historical moment for Mildred, where the Lady Eagles clinched their first playoff berth in volleyball.
Here’s a look at how things stand going into Tuesday’s final night of regular season action:
District 16-4A
The Tigers were two points away from clinching a playoff berth Friday night in Nacogdoches. The Lady Dragons took three straight points to win in five sets, and now the Tigers have to win twice this week to beat out Nacogdoches for the final playoff spot.
Corsicana (13-14, 2-7) needs a win Tuesday night at Jacksonville — the Tigers won the first match easily at home 25-9, 25-15, 25-5. Nacogdoches (3-6) plays district-leader Lindale.
If Corsicana wins and Nacogdoches loses, they’ll play later this week in a fourth-place play-in game. Lindale, Tyler John Tyler and Whitehouse have clinched playoff berth.
District 23-2A
Mildred upset first-place Teague to clinch third place and notch its first volleyball playoff berth in school history.
The Lady Eagles beat previously district unbeaten Teague 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 25-12 on Friday night.
Mildred (20-17, 6-3) was led by Jenny Jock, who had a kill, two blocks, 19 assists, eight aces, and six digs. Olivia Farmer had 16 kills, five blocks, an assist, an ace and nine digs. Audra Springer had six kills, a block, an assist and eight digs. Savannah Pritchett had three kills, three blocks, an assist, three aces and four digs. Callie Bland had 15 digs. Maddie Moore had 13 assists, three aces and five digs. Joanna Tapley had 14 kills, five aces and 12 digs. Morgan McCreary had two assists and a dig.
Rice, which clinched second place last week, defeated Marlin in five sets 23-25, 25-19, 25-11, 10-25, 15-8.
Celina Smithers had 15 kills, nine blocks, three aces, two digs and an assist for Rice (17-10, 7-2). Paige Allen was 18 of 20 serving with four aces, three kills, four digs and a save. Sadie Gent was17 of 17 serving with three aces, three kills, three saves and four digs. Sarah Gent was 8 of 8 serving with 14 assists, a kill and two saves. Hanna Owens was 13 of 13 serving with three assists. Samantha Harris was 13 of 13 serving with a kill.
District 13-1A
Frost (12-10, 8-5), which clinched a playoff berth Saturday with a win over Italy, joins Blum and Kopperl in the playoffs out of 13-1A.
The Lady Polar Bears defeated Italy 16-26, 25-20, 25-12, 25-23.
Dakota Lassetter had six kills, 19 assists, two digs and two aces. Jae Moore had 14 kills, a block and six digs. Jasymn Steels had 11 kills. Kaycee Bowling hadn’t served in the match, but came in with Frost down 23-20 in the fourth set and won the last five points for the Lady Polar Bears.
District 14-1A
Wortham and Kerens have clinched second place and along with state-ranked Cayuga will represent 14-1A in the postseason.
Kerens (18-11, 9-4) clinched a playoff spot Saturday with a 25-12, 25-14, 25-22 win over Cross Roads.
For Kerens, Marqueshia Kelly had 11 kills and six blocks. Breanna Wells had five kills, five blocks and was 12 for 13 on serves. Taylor Ames was 14 for 16 on serves with three kills and six assists. Tinesha Tolliver was 10 for 11 on serves with a kill and a block. Keenya Brown had five kills and five blocks. Kayla Kilcrease was 8 for 10 on serves with five digs. Brittany McClure was 18 for 18 on serves with six assists.
Wortham (20-15, 10-3), currently alone in second place, completed the regular season Saturday with a 25-23, 25-13, 25-21 win over Dawson.
For Dawson (4-9), Demi Dotson had seven kills and a dig. Courtney Warren had two digs, two kills, a block and six assists. Kaylee Martinez had a kill, a block and nine assists. Scheri Montgomery had a dig. Stormi Matthews had a dig. Jalyn Miller had two kills and a block. Hannah Greer had two kills and a block. Micheala Greer had two kills, five digs, two blocks and two aces. Steph Lindsey had three kills and a block.
Wortham can clinch second with a win at home Tuesday against Kerens. The LadyCats can force a potential tiebreaker match with a win.

The Mildred Lady Eagles dropped their regional semifinal series to the Garrison Lady BulldogsSaturday in Lindale. After losing a heartbreaker on Friday night, the Eagles fought back to take Game 2, 2-1, but fell in the deciding game, 3-1.

Four. It’s the number that will be on the dry erase board at Monday’s practice in Dawson, and it represents the number of wins the Bulldogs baseball team needs to get to Austin. The Bulldogs beat Muenster Saturday, 4-3, earning a sweep in the Region II-1A quarterfinals series.

Apparently, Mack has filed as a non-profit organization with the IRS. Unfortunately, he filed as a 501C under the name “The U‘T’ Party,” and the IRS has put them under intense scrutiny.

GC Softball: Hubbard stymies Trenton, 3-0, to advance to II-1A finals
When Nakaila Banks led off with a single and scored soon after a sacrifice bunt and two errors, it looked like Hubbard might be looking at a big offensive night. It turned out to be anything but, and it also turned out to be more than enough. Olivia Curtis was splendid on the mound, striking out 13, and the Lady Jags dumped Trenton, 3-0, in the Region II-1A semifinals before a crowd of 250 in Crandall.
