The Frost Polar Bears got the job done in every phase of the game Friday night, slamming the Dawson Bulldogs, 45-6, at Joe Parum Field.
Frost (8-1, 2-1) used the three-pronged rushing attack of Danial Steels, Robert Worley and Cade Rigamonti to pound the Bulldogs (0-8, 0-2) throughout the night.
Steels racked up 156 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns, and helped out defensively as well, returning an interception 35 yards for a score late in the third quarter. Worley also topped the triple digit mark with 111 rushing yards and a score. Rigamonti ground out 79 yards with a touchdown of his own, and also made a splash on defense, recovering a Dawson fumble with just over 11 minutes to play in the game.
The Polar Bear defense held the Bulldogs in check throughout the night, and put the ball back in their offense’s hands regularly with six turnovers. Frost’s defense recorded three interceptions and pounced on three Dawson fumbles, leading to 26 points for the home team.
Midway through the third quarter Colton McGill scooped up a block punt and rumbled 30 yards for a special teams score for the hosts.
It was a rough night for the Bulldogs, who just couldn’t seem to get anything going. Dawson racked up 90 yards in penalties to go with its six turnovers, and managed just 188 yards of offense.
One of the few bright spots for the Bulldogs was senior Marvin Manning, who put up the visitors’ only points. Manning answered a second quarter Frost score by slashing his way through the kickoff coverage, and out-running the Polar Bears for an 80-yard return touchdown.
Manning also recorded a 58-yard reception, Dawson’s longest gain of the night, with time winding down in the first half and the Bulldogs trailing 26-6.
The drive ended as the visitors turned the ball over on downs just six yards shy of the end zone.
