UPDATE: Josh Finney will be making his Teague Lions coaching debut after a successful tenure at Maud (38-12) … Teague dropped from 4-7 in 2008 to 1-9 in 2009 … Bell is an up-and-coming sophomore with good speed and size, and will be asked to play several roles … the Lions have an abundance of talent in the lineman positions, including Jake Pickens, Cory Chistle, and Wade Venable … Mildred has been dealt a devastating blow with the loss of preseason All-Golden Circle pick Beau Jenkins (L, 6-3, 285), who suffered a season-ending torn ACL during the preseason … the Eagles look to utilize Folsom’s speed and quickness at WR; experienced sophomore Nic Shimonek (6-3, 180) will start at QB … the defense returns seven starters

UPDATE: The Kerens Bobcats are coming in to this game with a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball. The Bobcats were Bi-District finalist a year ago and will look to build on that record for perhaps a much deeper playoff run this year...The Bobcat offense will be led by senior RB/WR Micheal Jordan... Jordan accounted for over 1,000 yards of total offense for the Bobcats last year and hit paydirt 14 times... McGowan had back-to-back seasons of 134 and 135 tackles. Bobcats junior QB Ethan Rutter hit the airways as a sophmore by throwing for over 2,000 yards in his first season ... Kerens will try to gain momentum with a win this week going into a matchup with Dawson next week.

Update: This game will be the Bobcats’ first varsity action since 1922…the 5-time state basketball champs passed a bond issue to build a field in 2007…Coach Gary Robinson resurrected football at the junior high level two years ago… Krum added a junior varsity schedule last year …this year the Bobcats will play an independent schedule with six varsity games…Polar Bears’ Coach Clark Moore must replace eight seniors from last year’s squad that started the season snapping a 22-game losing streak by winning three in a row…Steels rushed for 889 yards and 6 touchdowns en route to District 21-A Newcomer of the Year honors last year…clearing his path will be 2ndTeam All-District honoree Woods…Page, an All Golden Circle TE last year, will move to FB…he also led the Bears with over 100 tackles last year.

UPDATE: Dawson is experienced and very talented in 2010, especially at their skill positions … the Bulldogs got sweet revenge on Axtell the last two seasons after suffering a string of lop-sided losses at the hands of the Longhorns from 2004 to 2007 … über-talented senior RB Shaw (5-8, 180) is coming off his second consecutive 1,500-plus rushing season … in last year's 34-8 victory over the 'Horns, Shaw rushed for 178 yards and a score … senior RB Vaughn (6-3, 175) posted 127 rushing yards and two scores of his own in that meeting, and could again keep Axtell's defense reeling … not to be outdone, dual-threat QB Tennison (5-11, 170) scored on the ground and through the air in the win, and has only improved heading into his senior year.

Navarro baseball falls in a Game 1 of a doubleheader, 7-6, as Weatherford scores three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bulldogs rallied for the win in Game 2, winning 7-6.

On a night of shots nailed at the buzzer, the one the Tigers swished just after the final horn didn’t count.

There wasn’t a close game on Friday night in the Golden Circle, so the story of the evening was that five teams remained undefeated in district play.
