Youth Baseball: Home run derby

Cana Tigers 10U team hosting Saturday slug off

— The Cana Tigers 10U are hosting an All-American Home Run Derby on Saturday at Beebe Fields.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. at Beebe Fields and is open until the division slots fill up. The Derby winners will receive trophies and medals for first through third place in each age division.

The Derby will take place on two fields simultaneously.

Batters will hit from home plate, which will be relocated according to age division. For $20, each participant will get 20 opportunities to hit the ball over the fence.

The points will be tallied and awards given at the end of each division.

Batters, age 7 years and older, are encouraged to bring their own pitcher, or one will be provided.  A “guess your pitch speed” contest will also take place on another field complete with radar gun.  At 3 p.m., there is an open division for all ages.

There is no admission fee for fans. Hot dogs, drinks, and nachos will be available.  All the proceeds from this event will go to send the Cana Tiger baseball 10U team to the week-long World Series Tournament in Flower Mound.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. for boys and girls of all ages and the Derby will begin at 9 a.m.
