GC Track and Field: Rice boys win Bulldog relays Thursday

Henderson leads the way, wins discus with a throw of 161 feet

The Rice boys track team scored 160 points and won the Rice I-45 Bulldog Relays on Thursday.

Rice topped Scurry-Rosser and Leon, who came in second and third place. Mildred was fourth, while Frost was sixth and Kerens came in seventh place.

On the girls side, Ferris won with 165 points followed Scurry-Rosser and Frost.

Ragan Henderson led the way for the Bulldog boys, winning the discus with a throw of 161 feet, 10 inches. Alex Cruz won both the 110 and 300 hurdles.

Mildred’s Draylon Sterling won the 100 meters with a time of 11.62, followed by Henderson at 11.72 and Kerens’ Rayvon Faulk at 11.83. Mildred’s Jeremy Ballard won the 400 at 55.55.

On the girls side, Jasmyn Steels won the 100 meters with a time of 13.52 and Diana Rios won the 800 with a time of 2.40.00. Steels also won the long jump and triple jump.

Kerens’ Kiara Lindsey won the 400 with a time of 1:01.87 and Breanna Wells won the jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches.

     When Nakaila Banks led off with a single and scored soon after a sacrifice bunt and two errors, it looked like Hubbard might be looking at a big offensive night. It turned out to be anything but, and it also turned out to be more than enough. Olivia Curtis was splendid on the mound, striking out 13, and the Lady Jags dumped Trenton, 3-0, in the Region II-1A semifinals before a crowd of 250 in Crandall.
