In the game of the day of the opening round of the Kiwanis Classic, the Hubbard Jaguars defeated the Milford Bulldogs 55-42.
The Hubbard lead fluxuated almost all game reaching a low of six and a high of 25 in a roller coaster ride of a basketball game. After a 6-0 Bulldog run to start the fourth quarter, Hubbard coach Marcus Simmons called a timeout to get the Jaguars game plan back together. The Jags answered back and scored eight straight to bring their lead to 14 where it stayed for the remainder of the contest.
The Jaguars showcased their speed and defense during the game, scoring a majority of their points off of fastbreaks and turnovers.
Dylan Harris carried most of scoring load for Hubbard, notching 17 points for the game. D'Warren Simmons added 13 of his own and Casen Martin reached double digits as well with 10.
Although Milford played well defensively, they were unable to get a good start on offense and had to rely on Eric Evans and Jarius Russell to do the scoring.
Evans tallied 17 and Russell scored 16 to lead the Bulldogs in scoring.
Hubbard will play the Kerens Bobcats on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., while the Bulldogs will play the Blooming Grove Lions at 4:30 p.m.
