CHS Boys Hoops: Tigers can't keep up with No. 12 Jacksonville

State's only unbeaten 4A team whips CHS 50-27

Corsicana — The Tigers shocked No. 12 Jacksonville with a 10-0 run to start Tuesday night’s District 16-4A showdown.

The Indians’ then dished out some of their own suprises with a relentless full court press.

Jacksonville forced 31 turnovers, 17 of them in the first half, as the state’s only undefeated Class 4A team surged past upstart Corsicana for a 50-27 victory before the largest crowd of the season at Tiger Gym.

Jacksonville (25-0, 2-0) didn’t score its first basket until DD Franklin made a layup with 45 seconds were left in the first quarter.  The Indians then outscored the Tigers 19-6 in the second quarter to lead 21-16 at halftime.

KD Buckingham led Jacksonville with 12 points. Corsicana (18-6, 0-2) was paced by Dzifa Mallet, who had seven points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

The Tigers will get another difficult home test Friday night against 16-4A’s other unbeaten team, Tyler John Tyler (8-12, 2-0). The Lions beat playoff contender Whitehouse 78-65 on Tuesday night at John Tyler.
