Mildred defensive coordinator and head softball coach Billy Dan Chambliess was appointed interim athletic director, and the school district opened its search for a new AD and head football coach Monday, Superintendent Becky Burns said.
The school board met in special session Friday, and will first entertain only internal candidates, Burns said. The position will be posted internally for 10 days, she said.
“The board will look at internal candidates and make a judgment to go forth there, or choose to go outside (of the district),” Burns said.
Several internal candidates are expected to apply, she said.
Patrick Harvell resigned last week to take an administrative position with the Mexia ISD. In five years as head football coach, his teams went 48-15 and made state semifinal and finals appearances in the last two seasons.
