The Kerens LadyCats beat Hubbard in the district opener for both teams Saturday 16-25, 25-10, 25-21, 18-25, 15-11.
Cambree Betts led the way for Kerens (10-7, 1-0) going 8 for 11 serves with two kills, five blocks and six digs. Taylor Ames was 12 for 15 serves with four kills, a block and 10 assists. Breanna Wells was 9 for 9 serves with nine kills, two blocks and five digs. Hubbard fell to 11-13 and 0-1 in district.
Dawson sweeps Trinidad: Demi Dotson had 12 kills, two digs, a block and an ace as Dawson opened district with a 25-8, 25-13, 25-14 win over Trinidad.
Dawson (7-6, 1-0) was led by Stephanie Lindsey, who had five kills. Kaylee Martinez had three kills, two digs and 12 assists.
Rice beats Ferris: Celina Smithers had 11 kills, two aces and six blocks as Rice beat Ferris 25-13, 25-22, 25-21. Paige Allen had five kills and eight blocks for Rice (9-5). Sarah Gent had 11 assists and five saves.
Mildred beats Palmer: Audra Springer had 10 kills and five digs as Mildred (12-14) topped Palmer 18-25, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24,15-12 on Friday.
Olivia Farmer had 12 kills, 14 digs and two blocks. Stephanie Zamora had 15 assists and five digs.

GC Softball: Hubbard stymies Trenton, 3-0, to advance to II-1A finals
When Nakaila Banks led off with a single and scored soon after a sacrifice bunt and two errors, it looked like Hubbard might be looking at a big offensive night. It turned out to be anything but, and it also turned out to be more than enough. Olivia Curtis was splendid on the mound, striking out 13, and the Lady Jags dumped Trenton, 3-0, in the Region II-1A semifinals before a crowd of 250 in Crandall.

Challenger League in Kerens set for fourth season, with no entry fee
It’s that time of year again. The Central Texas Challenger League is back with its two-week season of baseball for boys and girls 8 to 18 (or still in school) from Navarro, Henderson and Freestone counties with mental or physical handicaps.
