The Navarro women’s soccer team has been targeting Tuesday’s first match against Tyler since last season.
That’s because Tyler has turned into the Lady Bulldogs’ nemesis.
The Lady Apaches won all three games between the two schools last year, including the Region XIV Tournament. They were tight matches, including Tyler winning 2-1 in the regional final.
Tyler is strong again this season, ranked No. 2 in the nation. Navarro (6-0-2) has climbed all the way to the ninth spot in the NJCAA Division I national poll.
The Lady Bulldogs will move up even higher in the rankings if they can get past Tyler for the first time in the last several meetings.
“It’s going to be a great game tomorrow,” Navarro assistant coach Aric Bonner said, “And I hope the community will come out and support the women’s soccer team. Two very good soccer teams are meeting in a neat soccer environment.”
Navarro comes in off of an 11-0 pasting of Northeast Community College in the conference opener on the road on Saturday.
Navarro striker Nugene Nugent is fourth in the country with 12 assists. She also has nine goals. Navarro Jodian Morris has seven goals and four assists.

Ray Parker pitched eight-plus innings to lead Texas A&M to a 5-0 victory over top-seeded Vanderbilt on Wednesday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament. Hunter Melton of Corsicana homered for the second straight day.

GC Softball: Single focus - Hubbard has sights set on steady Sam Rayburn
When Tuesday’s rains blew through Hubbard, blowing up the last half of practice, the Lady Jags loaded up, and went home. They can only hope to be loading up and going south next week. Hubbard (24-6-1) has a chance to set GPS devices for Austin if the Lady Jags can get past Sam Rayburn (28-2) Friday in the Region II-1A championship.

Navarro catcher John Clay Reeves is back in the World Series. Only this year it’s the JUCO World Series and Grand Junction, Colo., and not the NCAA Division I College World Series and famed Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Neb. like it was in 2012.

Lindblom loses 1st start, Rangers fall to A's 9-2
Josh Lindblom pitched out of trouble several times early in his debut as a major league starter. The Texas right-hander couldn't do it in the fifth inning. Seth Smith homered and scored three times, Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings for his first win in a month and the Oakland A's beat the Rangers 9-2 on Monday night.

The Mildred Lady Eagles dropped their regional semifinal series to the Garrison Lady BulldogsSaturday in Lindale. After losing a heartbreaker on Friday night, the Eagles fought back to take Game 2, 2-1, but fell in the deciding game, 3-1.

GC Baseball: Dawson earns sweep, series, with 4-3 win over Muenster
Four. It’s the number that will be on the dry erase board at Monday’s practice in Dawson, and it represents the number of wins the Bulldogs baseball team needs to get to Austin. The Bulldogs beat Muenster Saturday, 4-3, earning a sweep in the Region II-1A quarterfinals series.
