Girls Basketball Roundup: Cagle scores as much as opponent in Frost win
Haley Cagle scored as many points as her team's opponent Tuesday.
Cagle scored 21 points while Rebecca Page added 18 as Frost defeated Eagle Advantage 63-21 Tuesday night at home.
The Lady Bears started the rout in the first quarter, outscoring Eagle Advantage 25-2. Frost took a 39-7 lead at halftime.
Cassie Thurston added eight points while Lisa Belcher put in five.
Hubbard 42, Rice 29
For Rice, Tuesday's rematch with Hubbard didn't go near as well as the first.
The Lady Bulldogs lost to the Lady Jags, 42-29. Rice trailed 22-7 at the end of the first half.
Anna Hernandez scored a team-high nine points for the Lady Bulldogs.
Africa Lang led Hubbard with 15 points and Iesha Simmons added 13.
It was a more lopsided game than the first meeting between the schools on Nov. 19, where key shots from Lang helped the Lady Jags win, 30-25.
Hubbard is 5-2 this year while Rice has yet to win in its first six games.
Wortham 62, Vanguard 42
Kara Jantzen scored 25 points leading Wortham to a 42-29 win against Vanguard Tuesday.
Jantzen has become one of the Lady Bulldogs' leading scorers, since All-Golden Circle first-teamer Kali Warren graduated last year.
Sarah Owens scored 20 points and Chey Anne Bates added seven.
Wortham (3-2) had a 35-20 lead at halftime, enough to cruise to the win.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday in the Blooming Grove Tournament.
