GC Volleyball Roundup: Mildred stays on track

Lady Eagles beat Lady Lions to remain in 3rd

Mildred stayed in line to make the playoffs with a 25-9, 25-13, 25-12 victory over Blooming Grove on Tuesday.

Jenny Jock had three kills, two assists and a block for Mildred (19-17, 5-3). Olivia Farmer had 12 kills, three blocks, seven digs. Morgan McCreary had one kill and two assists. Audra Springer had eight kills, a block and eight digs.

Savannah Pritchett had five kills and four blocks. Callie Bland had 10 digs. Aubyn Turner an assist and three digs.  Maddie Moore had 16 assists and four digs. Joanna Tapley had six kills and 10 digs.

Kerens falls to first-place Cayuga: Kerens lost to No. 6 Cayuga on Tuesday night on the road 25-18, 25-13, 25-16.

The LadyCats (17-11, 9-4) were led by Marqueshia Kelly, who had six kills and a block. Breanna Wells had three kills and three blocks.

Rice beats Buffalo: Rice defeated Buffalo 27-25, 25-19, 25-13 to remain in second place in District 23-2A.

Celina Smithers had 19 kills, three blocks and three digs. Katelyn Northcutt had five kills. Paige Allen had four kills, two blocks, four digs and was 5 of 5 serving with an ace and an save. Sadie Gent was 7 of 7 serving with three kills, six digs and a save. Sarah Gent was 23 of 24 serving with 15 assists, three saves and a kill. Hanna Owens was 8 of 8 serving with an ace, a save and six assists.

Frost beats Milford: Frost won at Milford on Tuesday 25-21, 25-23, 14-25, 26-24. Alexya Steels had three aces and two digs. Dakota Lassetter had six kills, a block, 12 assists, two digs and four aces. Hillaree Schwartz had 10 assists, two aces and two blocks. Jae Moore had 11 kills, two blocks, three digs and three aces. Jasmyn Steels had six kills, a block and two aces. Kadee Bowling had five kills and two digs. Madison had three and a dig. Sabrina Jameson had four digs and was 12 for 12 serving.

Wortham stays in second place: Wortham (19-15, 9-3) knocked off Trinidad 25-9, 25-14, 25-13 on Tuesday.

  • Melton homers again as A&M tops Vanderbilt, 5-0

    Ray Parker pitched eight-plus innings to lead Texas A&M to a 5-0 victory over top-seeded Vanderbilt on Wednesday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament. Hunter Melton of Corsicana homered for the second straight day.

  • Hubbard Fletcher GC Softball: Single focus - Hubbard has sights set on steady Sam Rayburn

    When Tuesday’s rains blew through Hubbard, blowing up the last half of practice, the Lady Jags loaded up, and went home. They can only hope to be loading up and going south next week. Hubbard (24-6-1) has a chance to set GPS devices for Austin if the Lady Jags can get past Sam Rayburn (28-2) Friday in the Region II-1A championship.

  • Area Schedule: Updated to correct Navarro's game time Saturday

    Here is an updated schedule for this week's three remaining Golden Circle sports teams: Navarro baseball, Dawson baseball and Hubbard softball. It corrects the game time for Navarro, which is playing in the JUCO World Series in Colorado, on Mountain Time.

  • GC Baseball: ’Dogs want more - Windthorst next up for surging Dawson

    At this point, it might be easy to classify the rest of the baseball season for Dawson as gravy. But hold on a minute, coach Bo Moore said. The Bulldogs (20-7) are in the Region II-1A semifinals, the club’s deepest trek in many, many moons. To do that, they beat a Dodd City team that ousted them last year in the area round.

  • Lindblom loses 1st start, Rangers fall to A's 9-2

    Josh Lindblom pitched out of trouble several times early in his debut as a major league starter. The Texas right-hander couldn't do it in the fifth inning. Seth Smith homered and scored three times, Bartolo Colon pitched seven strong innings for his first win in a month and the Oakland A's beat the Rangers 9-2 on Monday night.

  • GC Softball: Mildred wins Game 2, but falls in series finale to Garrison

    The Mildred Lady Eagles dropped their regional semifinal series to the Garrison Lady BulldogsSaturday in Lindale. After losing a heartbreaker on Friday night, the Eagles fought back to take Game 2, 2-1, but fell in the deciding game, 3-1.

  • GC Baseball: Dawson earns sweep, series, with 4-3 win over Muenster

    Four. It’s the number that will be on the dry erase board at Monday’s practice in Dawson, and it represents the number of wins the Bulldogs baseball team needs to get to Austin. The Bulldogs beat Muenster Saturday, 4-3, earning a sweep in the Region II-1A quarterfinals series.
