Polar Bears move to 5-0 with 66-6 win over TCA-Waco

Corsicana — The Frost Polar Bears scored early and often en route to a 66-6 homecoming win over Texas Christian Academy of Waco.

The Polar Bears accumulated 26 points after only six offensive snaps in the first quarter.

The first offensive play started deep in Pacer territory. The Bears forced a Pacers three and out. The snap to punter Jonah Erbe sailed high over his head and he fell on it at his own 1 yard-line.  From there, Robert Worley snuck in for a touchdown behind center Andrew Jackson.

On its second offensive series, TCA converted 4th and 24 from their own 27-yard line with a 56-yard Erbe to Austin Baldridge strike.  On the next play, Frost’s Makiko Bruce forced a fumble recovered by Jackson.

The Polar Bears’ Danial Steels then broke several tackles and ripped off a 76-yard run.

The Bears used interception returns by Worley and Jacob Stroder along with their running game to push the lead to 52-0 by halftime.

Josh Riojas also picked off a first half interception that set up another of Steels’ three touchdown runs.

  • RON MORGAN.jpg Morgan: Solid shape - Despite injuries, Rangers just fine

Let me see a show of hands. Who was worried this season about the Rangers losing Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and Mike Napoli? Come on, now. You know it was hard to see how they would replace both the production and the leadership provided by that threesome. Oh, and let’s add that they would have to start the season without Coby Lewis and Neftali Feliz. Surely, you had to wonder if even Moses could lead us could lead us out of the AL West.

Bo Moore lives by the run. He likes to put pressure on the opponent. A three-run seventh looked like just enough cushion in a five-run game. But it wasn’t. Windthorst scored six runs, five with two outs, to steal a 7-6 win from Dawson in Game 1 of the Region II-1A seminfinals at Weatherford College.
