Frost snaps 22-game losing streak, 22-8 over Santo
The difference: Frost’s Wing-t rushing attack scored on its second and third possessions while it chewed up 197 first-half yards. It added 129 rushing yards and a touchdown in the second-half. On defense, the Frost linemen held their gaps limiting Santo to 31 first-half yards. Matt Hannah’s fumble recovery with 1:21 left in the game allowed the Polar Bears to run out the clock.
Game notes: Christian De Jean scored a 1-yard touchdown run with 11:15 left to go in the fourth quarter to seal it; the touchdown run capped a 13-play scoring drive that covered 82 yards, and took 6:51 off the clock … after the ensuing Sam Melendez extra-point kick, Frost extended its lead to 22-0 … the Polar Bears broke a 22-game losing streak by pounding Santo with a three-prong rushing attack; Jonathan Hopkins had 13 carries for 124 yards and two first-half touchdowns … with blocking from the left side of Frost offensive line featuring David Rios, Matt Hannah and TE Travis Cassady, Hopkins scored on 11 and 40-yard sweeps … freshman Daniel Steels and De Jean added 124 and 91 yards, respectively … the Polar Bears also featured a new passing target for QB Ty Ritterbach; Philip Page, last year’s starting center, played tight end and had two receptions for 48 yards.
