Jaguars rally comes up short, 28-24
The difference: Special Teams. The Hubbard Jaguars allowed another kick off return for a touchdown Friday night, when Meridian’s Dakota Hall ran for 80 yards late in the first quarter. The Jags also failed to convert all four point after attempts.
Standouts: Hubbard’s Isaiah Thompson rushed for a total of 91 yards while finding the end zone once. Meridian’s Joe Barrett Winkler completed 2 of 6 passes for 21 yards, one of which was caught by Damian Allen in the end zone. Winkler also rushed for 98 yards and scored one touchdown.
Game notes: Meridian’s head coach Todd Doughty won is first game as a Yellow Jacket, while Hubbard’s Joe Heckathorn is still seeking his first win as a head coach. A second half rally, which resulted in 18 points in three minutes and 13 seconds wasn’t enough for Hubbard. Lance McClain and Isaiah Thompson led the rally with a combined 146 rushing yards and scoring three touchdowns in the second half.
