Frost beats Fruitvale to start season with 2-0 record
The difference: With 11:27 left in the 4th quarter, the Polar Bears recovered a fumbled Fruitvale punt return at the Bobcat 7-yard line. Two plays later, Christian DeJean scampered across the goal line from 5 yards out to push the Frost lead to 7.
Game notes: The Polar Bears’ Wing-T produced three 100+ yard rushers with Hopkins gaining 139 yards, De Jean 127 yards, and Daniel Steels 124 yards … the Bears reeled off 10 runs of 10 yards or more … Frost also hammered Fruitvale in the 4th quarter behind RG Sam Melendez, RT Gary Woods, and TE Philip Page resulting in 2 touchdown drives and a clock-killing 6:18 34-yard possession … Fruitvale QB Tyler Yates, who threw for 1 touchdown and ran for another in the 1st quarter, was hobbled in the 2nd quarter and did not play the second half … the Polar Bears’ defense held Fruitvale to 17 rushing yards in the 4th quarter. They also grounded the Bobcats’ spread formation aerial attack with a Travis Cassidy pass break-up and two Hopkins interceptions.
Records: Frost is 2-0. Fruitvale is 0-2.
They said it: After the game Frost Coach Clark Moore said, “I like the way we finished. We finished both halves very well. Our defense really made key plays, and our backs and offensive line kept running hard like Christian De Jean’s [last] touchdown.”
