WHITEHOUSE —
The Lady Tigers didn’t close out the first half with momentum Friday night in Whitehouse, and they paid for it in the second half.
Corsicana struggled to score and couldn’t stop Whitehouse in a 56-40 loss to the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Tigers lost their third straight game in district, and suffered a defeat to a team that likely will be their top challenger for the fourth playoff spot in 16-4A.
Corsicana (14-12, 0-3) used a 13-0 run in the first half to build a 20-11 lead. But Whitehouse scored the last six points of the half, the crusher a 3-pointer by Kenslie Dews off a steal with just a few seconds left before halftime.
Whitehouse used the momentum to blitz Corsicana in the second half. The Lady Tigers, who had a one-point fourth quarter in a home loss Tuesday to Lindale, scored only five points in the third quarter as Whitehouse surged to a 31-25 lead.
Ashton Ates scored 11 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter as Whitehouse (11-8, 1-2) salted away its first district win.
Shamara Taylor led Corsicana with nine points. Ariel Bartee, Galinda Davis and Calae Wilson all have seven points.
