Tigers in the NFL

1. Danieal Manning, DB, Chicago. The Bears were off on Sunday. They play at Atlanta on Sunday night at 7:20 on Ch. 5.

2. Louis Vasquez, OL, San Diego. The Chargers were off on Sunday. They play Denver on Monday night at 7:30 on ESPN.

3. Billy Yates, OL, Cleveland. The Browns beat Buffalo, 6-3, on Sunday. Yates played but didn’t start.

4. David Hawthorne, LB, Seattle. The Seahawks defeated Jacksonville, 41-0, on Sunday. Hawthorne played but didn’t have any tackles.

    The games keep getting a little bigger for the Navarro Runnin’ Bulldogs.
    Saturday afternoon brings a second-place showdown with Highway 31 rival Trinity Valley at the K. and Ida Wolens Special Events Center, and the Bulldogs are hoping for a packed house for one of their biggest adversaries.

  • GC Basketball: Dawson girls need win to make playoffs

    The Dawson girls won their way into a third-place playoff game. Now they try to win their way into the playoffs.
    The Lady Bulldogs will play at Mart at 6 p.m. Friday night for the right to be the third-place representative out of District 16-1A for the Class 1A Division I playoffs that begin next week.

  • CHS soccer to open district season

    The Corsicana soccer teams open the District 28-4A season Friday night at home against Ferris.
    They will try to rebound off a tough start to the season. The boys will play first at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls at 7:30 p.m.

  • 2-9 NC Baseball.jpg College Baseball: Navarro 6, Grayson County 5

    Navarro and Grayson County didn’t meet at last year’s Junior College World Series, even though the Texas schools both made it to Grand Junction.
    They played a game Wednesday filled with a tournament type of intensity.
    The Bulldogs held on in the end 6-5 as freshman Gage Curry, who was just finishing up his career as a Corsicana Tiger last year when Navarro won the national title, got the final two outs for his second save.

  • College Basketball: Navarro 71, Jacksonville 68

    Navarro has the three-game conference winning streak that Runnin’ Bulldogs coach Johnny Estelle wanted to see.
    That his team did it on a night that they played a lackluster first 22 minutes can only be taken as a positive.

    The Navarro softball team improved its record to 7-1 with a doubleheader sweep at Weatherford, winning 6-0 and 9-1.

    For a half, the Rice Bulldogs did everything they could to stay with the red hot Kerens Bobcats, even withstanding a furious full court press.
    But as Kerens coach Don Enis told injured Rice sharpshooter Dalton Pike after the Bobcats’ 61-37 victory, “we’re a second half team.”
