Corsicana —
The Mildred Maniacs lost a heartbreaker for the TTAS 12U District 7 championship. The good news is their season goes on.
The Maniacs lost 8-7 to Hillsboro on Thursday night in a tight game to the finish. Both teams advance to the TTAS 12U State Tournament in Whitehouse on July 16.
The Maniacs had the bases loaded with two outs and a full count in the final inning, but a groundout ended the game.
“We’re doing good,” Maniacs coach Doug Tapley said. “It’s a group of summer girls having fun. There’s no pressure on them.”
The Maniacs are strong at the top of their lineup with Kalen Cope, Taylor White, Nicole Arreola and Brittany Morelock, all headed into the eighth grade.
White is a standout pitcher. Arreola can come in behind her and get key outs.
“Those top four are really talented kids,” Tapley said.
The Maniacs were 9-1 in the regular season and put together a 4-2 record at the four-day district tournament. Now it’s on to state.
“We’ll make a pretty good showing,” Tapley said.
TTAS 15U Tournament loaded with local teams: Three teams from Mildred and another from Frost will play in TTAS 15U State Tournament in Mildred starting July 16.
Mildred Softball, the Mildred Eagles and the Mildred Thunder all advanced out of regular season play, as did the Lady Polar Bears.
There will be 17 teams at the state tournament, 15U state director Shane Farmer said.

The Xtreme won the championship game against Athens, 16-6. BG outscored its four opponents by a combined score of 59-18.
“We scored a lot of runs,” Xtreme coach Chad Briggs said.
Tatum Briggs pitched all four games for the Xtreme. The rest of the Xtreme roster include Kasey Fisher, Riley Skains, Macie Skains, Madison Peterson, Kristen Keating, Samantha Melton, Gracie Blackman, Mikayla Atkins and Tori Cox.
