CHS Athletics: Tiger Stadium to get turf upgrade

Corsicana — The Corsicana Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Monday to accept a negotiated agreement with the supplier of the artificial turf at Tiger Stadium to replace the turf with an “upgraded” surface at a deeply discounted rate.

The district has been negotiating with the firm through an attorney to address concerns about the condition and wear of the current turf, now about six years old. Manufacturing flaws have affected the turf, and the supplier offered to replace the existing model at no charge with only the two years of warranty remaining, or replace it with an “upgraded” version for a cost of $175,000, and a full eight year warranty.

District Superintendent Dr. Diane Frost said the upgrade will be paid for from revenues generated through stadium rentals for playoff games, a fund which has also provided upgrades for safety gear as well.
