Navarro now knows the opponent it can begin preparing for as the Runnin’ Bulldogs try to repeat again as Region XIV Tournament champions.
The No. 2 seeded Bulldogs (23-7), who had a first-round bye, will open the tournament Thursday with a quarterfinal game against the Lamar State Seahawks. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at UT-Tyler’s Herrington Patriot Center (KAND-AM 1340).
Lamar State (21-10) thumped Paris in Tuesday’s first-round game 90-68.
The Seahawks played a solid game, shooting better than 50 percent and making 80 percent of their free throws. Lamar State had five players reach double figures, led by Ty Allen with 23 points, Jamal Shabazz with 15 and Tre Bennett with 14.
Navarro beat Lamar State in the semifinals at last year’s Region XIV Tournament, winning 78-65. The Bulldogs then beat Blinn for their third regional title in four years.

GC Baseball: ’Dogs want more - Windthorst next up for surging Dawson
At this point, it might be easy to classify the rest of the baseball season for Dawson as gravy. But hold on a minute, coach Bo Moore said. The Bulldogs (20-7) are in the Region II-1A semifinals, the club’s deepest trek in many, many moons. To do that, they beat a Dodd City team that ousted them last year in the area round.
