Edgewood's fast start leads to 43-14 win over Kerens

KERENS — — Edgewood scored 23 first-half points and never looked back as the Bulldogs chewed up the Kerens Bobcats 43-14 on Friday night.

From the opening kickoff, Edgewood’s Carlos Bolton raced 75 yards down the Kerens sideline untouched to give Edgewood a 7-0 lead.

Kerens just couldn’t get started out of the gate tonight with several costly turnovers that killed what looked to be promising drives.

On fourth-and-three from the Edgewood 8 early in the first stanza, Rayvon Faulk was stuffed and drove backwards by a host of swarming defenders for Edgewood.

Edgewood then drove the length of the field again on the arm and legs of Bulldog QB Jacob Sharff before Carlos Bolton took the pigskin into the end zone once more with 1:42 left in the first quarter.

An offside penalty on Kerens on the extra point try saw Edgewood take advantage with a Joe Blazio conversion run to put the Bulldogs up 15-0 with 1:42 left in the first quarter to never look back. Edgwood’s Sharff accounted for three Edgewood scores on the night.

For Bobcat fans all was not lost for the night as Nate Betts and Kevin Townsel were bright spots for the Bobcats tonight. Betts accounted for 191 yards of total offense for the Bobcats.Townsel electrified the Kerens faithful with a 80-yard kickoff return for Kerens first score of the night.

Other standouts for the Bobcats were Adreon Davis who scored the other Bobcat Touchdown with a nice 40-yard TD.

  • RON MORGAN.jpg Morgan: Solid shape - Despite injuries, Rangers just fine

Let me see a show of hands. Who was worried this season about the Rangers losing Josh Hamilton, Michael Young and Mike Napoli? Come on, now. You know it was hard to see how they would replace both the production and the leadership provided by that threesome. Oh, and let’s add that they would have to start the season without Coby Lewis and Neftali Feliz. Surely, you had to wonder if even Moses could lead us could lead us out of the AL West.

Bo Moore lives by the run. He likes to put pressure on the opponent. A three-run seventh looked like just enough cushion in a five-run game. But it wasn’t.
