The Navarro women’s soccer team played a pair of Top 20 teams to 0-0 draws at the Minnesota Classic in Rochester, Minn. this week.
The Lady Bulldogs finished up with a 1-0-2 record for the tournament.
Navarro tied No. 15 Iowa Western to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
Bulldogs goalkeeper Amber Henderson had her third clean sheet of the season. Iowa Western had eight goals to one for Navarro.
The Bulldogs came back and played to another 0-0 draw on Sunday against No. 14 Lewis & Clark.
On Friday, Nugene Nugent scored three goals and two assists as Navarro’s women’s soccer team opened up the Minnesota Kickoff Classic with an 8-0 victory over Rochester Community and Technical College (Minn.) on Friday.
Nugene Nugent set up the first goal of the match at the 3:58 mark as Marissa Listenbee put one in the net. Navarro struck quickly again as Naia Garcia scored on an assist from Kayla Evans.
Nugent was involved in the next three goals. She assisted on a goal by Rachel Hielckert at the 13:16 mark of the first half. Nugent then scored her second goal of the match on an assist by Clarice Cruz at the 41:12 mark.

The Bulldogs kept pouring it on as Ward scored on an assist from Jodian Morris at the 19:04 mark of the second half. Ward later assisted on a goal by Briana Licea at the 35:16 mark for a 7-0 lead.
Nugent capped the scoring and completed her hat trick at the 43:30 mark on an assist from Ginesha Pickersgill.

It’s almost rodeo time in Navarro County. The Navarro County Pro Rodeo is coming to town next weekend at the Navarro County Youth Exposition Center. Gates will open at 6 p.m. both Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, with the rodeo beginning about 8 p.m.

Parker Ray pitched eight-plus innings to lead Texas A&M to a 5-0 victory over top-seeded Vanderbilt on Wednesday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament. Hunter Melton of Corsicana homered for the second straight day.

GC Softball: Single focus - Hubbard has sights set on steady Sam Rayburn
When Tuesday’s rains blew through Hubbard, blowing up the last half of practice, the Lady Jags loaded up, and went home. They can only hope to be loading up and going south next week. Hubbard (24-6-1) has a chance to set GPS devices for Austin if the Lady Jags can get past Sam Rayburn (28-2) Friday in the Region II-1A championship.
