Kerens took third at the Scurry-Rosser Tournament, defeating Mildred on Saturday in the third-place game.
The LadyCats (7-5), who went 2-1 in pool play, started bracket play Saturday with a 25-15, 15-25, 15-11 victory over Cross Roads. Kerens then lost to Edgewood, 25-21, 25-21 to land in the third-place game. The LadyCats lost to Mildred in two sets in Thursday’s pool play, and then bounced back to beat the Lady Eagles 25-22, 19-25, 15-12 for third place.
Marqueshia Kelly had 27 kills and 10 blocks for the tournament. Keenya Brown had five kills and nine blocks. Breanna Wells had 18 kills and 12 blocks. Cambree Betts had five kills and nine blocks. Taylor Ames had 13 kills and five blocks. Tinesha Tolliver had 100 kills and six blocks. Kayla Kilcrease had 27 digs.
Mildred (11-12) went 1-2 in bracket play on Saturday. The Lady Eagles beat Scurry-Rosser 25-19, 25-18, lost to Palmer 25-12, 25-16 and then lost to Kerens.
Olivia Farmer had 23 kills, nine blocks, four aces and 20 digs. Audra Springer 11, four blocks, two aces and nine digs. Jenny Jock had eight kills, four blocks and six assists. Savannah Pritchett had five kills, six blocks and eight digs. Stephanie Zamora had 25 assists. Callie Bland 23 digs. Maddie Moore had 14 assists. Morgan McCreary had six kills. Kennidi Montfort had three blocks. Melody Evett had a save.
Hubbard wins two at Robinson Tournament: Hubbard (11-12) beat Hillsboro and Bosqueville at the Robinson Tournament. The Lady Jaguars played 10 matches in four days.
They lost to China Spring, Milano, Bruceville-Eddy, Waco Connally and Killeen.
Friday’s roundup
Celina Smithers had 10 kills, four blocks and four aces as Rice defeated Hubbard 25-17, 27-25, 25-18 in a non-district match on Friday.
Paige Allen had six kills and four blocks for Rice (7-5). Sarah Gent had 15 assists and four saves. Sadie Gent had three kills, three saves, five digs and she was 14 of 14 serving. Katelyn Northcutt and Samantha Harris had three kills. Ashton Metcalfe had four digs. Hanna Owens had seven assists. Ashley Henderson did well defensively.

Eye on the Prize
Dave “Coach” Robertstad, an avid birdwatcher and outdoor enthusiast, could have kept his teaching focused on standard P.E. activities like kickball, dodgeball or basketball but he answered a higher calling. Instead, Coach Robertstad took it upon himself to create the OAK program alongside his standard P.E. curriculum as a means of teaching his students critical outdoor skills.
