The Mildred Lady Eagles split two games on the opening day of Mildred Tournament, beating Eustace 9-1 and losing to Hubbard 6-0.
Rice drops 3 games: Rice opened the Mildred Classic on Thursday with a 7-3 loss to Cayuga.
Ashton Metcalfe took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits. She had two strikeouts. Hunter Keilers pitched in relief and allowed three runs and had three strikeouts.
Rebecca Alsup was 2 for 2 with two RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Rice also lost to Malakoff and Hubbard on Thursday.

Eagles win twice: Mildred won two games Thursday at the Grand Saline Tournament, beating Eustace 5-3 and Mabank 6-5.
Justin Jenkins got the win against Eustace. Clay Waller was the winning pitcher for Mabank.
Kerens split two games: Kerens overcame a 3-0 deficit to heat Italy 7-5.
D.J. Kamp had two hits. Ian Salas had three RBIs.
Kerens lost to Rice 8-6. Brett Anderson had three hits for the Bobcats. Salas had two RBIs.

Eye on the Prize
Dave “Coach” Robertstad, an avid birdwatcher and outdoor enthusiast, could have kept his teaching focused on standard P.E. activities like kickball, dodgeball or basketball but he answered a higher calling. Instead, Coach Robertstad took it upon himself to create the OAK program alongside his standard P.E. curriculum as a means of teaching his students critical outdoor skills.
