TYLER — The No. 8 Lady Apaches avenged a loss last month with a 2-0 victory over the No. 5 Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night at Pat Hartley Field.
The next time the teams meet it will likely be in an elimination match at the regional tournament later this month.
Navarro lost for the first time in 15 matches. The Bulldogs are 11-1-2 on the season and 3-1 in conference, tied with Tyler for first place.
Alice Coyne, Tyler's talented midfielder, scored the first goal midway through the first half. Coyne set up Trisha Gould on Tyler's second goal early in the second half, a two-pass counter attack by the Lady Apaches.
Navarro gave a spirited effort in the final 20 minutes, dominating the midfield and winning almost every ball, but couldn't turn it into a goal.
