Navarro split a doubleheader with Trinity Valley on Wednesday afternoon, bouncing back from a 1-0 loss in Game 1 to beat the Lady Cardinals 7-4 in the nightcap.
Navarro (17-12, 3-1) won Game 2 behind the pitching of Brianna Bryant, who allowed five hits and two earned runs. She had four strikeouts. Camrie Helm came in for the save.
The Lady Bulldogs pounded out 14 hits. Jessica Marshburn was 2 for 4 with a double. Monique Miller was 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Jade Havard was 2 for 3 with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBIs. Megan Noel was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Corinne Brassell was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Navarro had a great chance to win Game 1. Lady Bulldogs starter Kaycee Spears allowed only two hits, they just happened to be in the same inning. The Lady Bulldogs managed three hits on offense.
The Lady Bulldogs have played in several close games this season. They’ve lost four games by a run and three more by two runs.
They’ve still won six of their last eight games with one of those losses coming against No. 18 Galveston in extra innings.
Navarro’s season hits an key point with 19 games left, 17 of them conference matchups.
Remarkably, because of early season rainouts, the Lady Bulldogs have only played two of their 29 games at home, both on Saturday when they swept a doubleheader from Bossier Parish in their conference series.
And Navarro plays six of its next eight games on the road, starting with Saturday’s twinbill against Northeast at Mount Pleasant.
