A dream sports year for Frost raged on Tuesday night on the basketball court.
The Polar Bears used a game-changing third quarter to stun No. 4 Huckabay 49-44 on Tuesday night in a Region III-1A DII quarterfinal in Clifton.
Frost has now made it four rounds deep in football and basketball this school year. The Polar Bears earned their first trip to the regional basketball tournament since 2001.
Frost (17-6) will play Bellevue in a regional semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday at Tyler Junior College.
The Polar Bears trailed 24-21 at halftime and then turned their defense up. Frost went on a 15-2 run over the first five minutes of the quarter. Andrew Jackson took back-to-back charges on the defensive end, and the Polar Bears were able to create some separation. Frost built its lead to 36-26 as Jackson made two huge buckets going to the basket.
"That's the best quarter of basketball we've played since I've been here," Frost coach Eric Blenden said.
Huckabay was able to cut the lead to three at the end of the third quarter, and the score stayed there until 1:50 left in the game. Frost was able to get a steal and Steels made a layup for a 5-point lead. Steels had nine points in the fourth quarter.
Frost made the clutch plays down the stretch, on defense and at the free throw line.
"We've lost the last two years because of missed free throws and not getting stops," Blenden said. "They've played in two playoff games and they knew what to do at the end."

GC Softball: Hubbard stymies Trenton, 3-0, to advance to II-1A finals
When Nakaila Banks led off with a single and scored soon after a sacrifice bunt and two errors, it looked like Hubbard might be looking at a big offensive night. It turned out to be anything but, and it also turned out to be more than enough. Olivia Curtis was splendid on the mound, striking out 13, and the Lady Jags dumped Trenton, 3-0, in the Region II-1A semifinals before a crowd of 250 in Crandall.
