Emily Ann Bates and Daniel Keith Hanzus were united in marriage at 6:30 p.m. on May 12, 2012 in an outside ceremony at The Vista on Seward Hill in Austin, Texas. Officiating the ceremony were Kenneth Bates, cousin to the bride and the Honorable Phillip Zeigler with scripture reading by Matthew Price. A cocktail hour, dinner and dancing followed at the venue. On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Stubb's Barbeque; also in Austin.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Bob Bates of Gatesville, Texas and the granddaughter of Mae Beaubouef and the late Stafford Beaubouef of Corsicana and the late Oran and Eva Bates of Gatesville. She is a graduate of Baylor University, Waco and works in network casting for NBC in Los Angeles, Calif.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hanzus of Pearl River, N.Y. and the grandson of the late John and Barbara Carson and the late Paul and Frances Hanzus. He is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. and is employed by NFL.com as a sportswriter in Los Angeles, Calif.
Emily was escorted by her father and presented for marriage by her parents. She wore a Romona Keveza gown made of silk dupioni, accented with a Swarovski crystal belt and finger-tip veil attached with mother-of-pearl hairpin. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of fresh coral peonies and garden tea roses intertwined with lace from her mother's bridal gown. Sarah Mutscheller, college friend of the bride served as matron of honor. Other bridesmaids were Katie Martin, cousin and life-long friend and Siobhan Ax, sister of the groom.
The groom's best man was his brother, Kevin Hanzus. Groomsmen were Bob Castrone, lifelong friend; Michael Allen, Matthew Breunig, cousins of the groom, Keith Ax and Tanner Bates, brothers-in-law of the groom. Ushers were James Breunig, also cousin to the groom and Matthew Price, childhood friend of the bride.
Special wedding music was provided by the groom's uncle, John Carson, singer and guitarist and Mark Glazman accompanied on guitar. Milk Drive Band of Austin provided additional music for the ceremony as well as the cocktail hour that followed. Coordination of the wedding was done by Olivia Sharratt of Liv by Design Events of Austin, Texas.
Following a honeymoon to Hawaii, Dan and Emily will reside in Los Angeles, Calif.
